Painting with your Wild Woman Archetype

Oct  12 – Oct 20, 2018

an amazing Encaustic and Oil and Cold Wax Workshop

As I have been teaching workshops both in person and online for the past few years  I came to the realization that there are so many of us out there that are seeking to reconnect with that inner wild child woman .That we have been behaving ourselves for way too long and its time to paint like no one is watching … Join me for this gathering of like minded spirits and lets reconnect to our wild woman archetype . Working first in charcoal , then in Encaustic and finally in Oil and Cold wax ,let me show you how to combine it all with mixed media in a safe and archival way to say what you really want to say  , to go boldly and passionately about the business of painting , without fear , judgement and self sabotage . I have knowledge and understanding of materials and how to use them and I can pass that knowledge on to you in order for you to get RESULTS from your painting practice . I can teach you , the way I work with paint , the materials I use and how I use them , the tools that work best , in my opinion and most importantly , how YOU can wholeheartedly embrace  this knowledge into your style of painting . Encaustic may be a new language to you , Portraiture may be a new language and like any other language , there is a vocabulary and a few rules ( mostly to do with archival matters ) With this knowledge of your tools and materials , you will be able to step forward with wild confidence , and do it !

About Marrakesh

There is a creative energy that hums in the city-from the traditional souk artisans working in the same techniques for hundreds of years to contemporary artists and creative entrepreneurs who are reinterpreting Moroccan design for current trends. Inspiration can be found around every corner. Jaw-dropping historic architecture, vibrant colors woven into the beautiful patterns of carpets, zouak painting and zellij tile designs, and the intricate arabesque carvings into metal, wood, and plaster -all serve to create a visually stimulating environment that is an artisan’s dream come true.

Encaustic is the very earliest known form of paint, predating oil, fresco and tempera. It was first used by the Greeks over 2,000 years ago. After Alexander the Great conquered Egypt in 33BC, a large number of Greeks went to Egypt bringing their ideas and customs. It was in Egypt that encaustic reached its highest artistic expression with the wonderful Fayum mummy portraits, which are as vibrant and fresh as they were when they were painted.Encaustic paint is beeswax and pigments mixed with a little damarresin. The damar raises the melting point of the beeswax, hardens it and gives the paint its unique optical depthDuring the course students will learn the traditional techniques of Encaustic painting  painting on wood to create their own pieces. They will be given an introduction to the history of Encaustic painting and  .encouraged to experiment with this gorgeous medium
